PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) of the Providence College women's ice hockey team was named Women's Hockey Commissioners' Association National Goaltender of the Month, as announced on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Abstreiter earned the same monthly award at the conference level, as announced by Hockey East and has been recognized twice this season as Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. (Nov. 23 and Nov. 30).
Abstreiter has started all eight games for the Friars in the 2020-21 season and has recorded 207 saves, stopping 87 out of 90 shots she faced in December alone. The senior netminder led the league in shutouts (2) for the month of December and tied for the lead in wins (3). She also has registered the most wins by an NCAA goaltender for the 2020-21 season. Overall, she has posted a 6-1-1 record, has a 1.24 goals against average and a .954 save percentage this season.
