PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The Providence College men's lacrosse team continues its partnership with the Vs. Cancer Foundation in 2020 as participants in the Vs. Cancer 4-Mile Challenge on Friday, Oct. 9. Donations raised through the Vs. Cancer 4-Mile Challenge will contribute to the fight against pediatric cancer.
"We have partnered with Vs. Cancer for years and our program has been able to help generate impressive funds and awareness for this special cause and we will continue to do so." Providence College men's lacrosse head coach and Vs. Cancer ambassador
Chris Gabrielli said. "Our objectives are to get involved, help provide support for children who are suffering and to also teach our current student-athletes to pause, be grateful and consider others first."
In addition to donating, individuals can participate in the Vs. Cancer 4-Mile Challenge by registering as a participant, rallying support from friends, family and followers, and completing the 4-mile run – virtually or in-person – while following proper health and safety guidelines from state and local government.
Vs. Cancer is a Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation, and their goal is to help fund child life programs. Vs. Cancer was founded by Chase Jones who was diagnosed with a Stage IV brain tumor at 18 years old. Jones was a Division I baseball player at the University of North Carolina. His team supported him through his treatment and raised money to support local hospitals. Due to national research efforts and community help, Chase is now 11 years cancer-free.
