Jarrod Neumann ’17 and James Barclay ’18 will face one another on opening night on NBCSN.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Former Providence College lacrosse standouts Jarrod Neumann '17, James Barclay '18 and Tate Boyce '19 will be competing in the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) Championship Series beginning on Saturday, July 25 on NBC and NBCSN. Neumann will be competing for the Chaos, Barclay suits up for the Chrome and Boyce represents the league's newest team, the Waterdogs.
Neumann, a PLL All-Star, All-Pro and Defensive Player of the Year, had a remarkable inaugural season. He also won the fastest shot competition as part of All-Star Weekend, clocking in at 115 mph. The defender tallied 10 points, five caused turnovers and 15 groundballs last season. Neumann suits up for the first time on Saturday, July 25 at 7:30 p.m. on NBCSN against former teammate and fellow defenseman Barclay and the Chrome. At Providence, Neumann earned USILA/Nike Second-Team All-America recognition and was named to the Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Third-Team. Additionally, he nabbed BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year as well as All-BIG EAST First Team recognition, BIG EAST All-Tournament Team honors and NEILA All-New England First-Team accolades during his senior season.
Barclay won the inaugural PLL Championship with the Whipsnakes in 2019. Barclay began the season with the Chaos before being traded to the Whips. Prior to the 2020 PLL season, Barclay was picked up by the Chrome. He was an integral part of Providence's defensive unit from 2015-2018. He played 60 games during his career, collected 100 groundballs and caused 48 turnovers. His senior season he earned NEILA All-New England honors and was a unianimous All-BIG EAST First Team Selection.
Boyce signed his contract with the Waterdogs on March 22, 2020. Prior to joining the PLL, he suited up for the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL). Boyce departed Providence College as the most decorated player in program history. During his time with the Friars, Boyce was a four-time All-BIG EAST First-Team selection and two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year. He is the only player in program history to earn All-Conference First-Team recognition each season of his four-year career, and the first player to earn Goalkeeper of the Year recognition in multiple seasons. Boyce also is the first player in program history to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, which honors the nation's top lacrosse players. He was featured on the list in back-to-back seasons (2018-2019). Additionally, he is one of four players in program history to earn USILA Division I All-America honors, and the only player to earn All-America honors in multiple seasons (2017 and 2019). Boyce's first game with the Waterdogs is on Sunday, July 26 at 4 p.m. against Atlas.
