Boyce is one of the most decorated players in Providence College lacrosse history.

PROVIDENCE, R.I.– On March 22, former Providence College men's lacrosse stand-out Tate Boyce '19 (Matthews, N.C.) officially signed a contract to play professional lacrosse with the Waterdogs Lacrosse Club of Premier Lacrosse League (PLL). Boyce played professionally for the Boston Cannons of the Major Lacrosse League (MLL) in 2019. He was on the active roster for 16 games for the Cannons.

"Tate Boyce has prepared himself well for the opportunity to play with the best [lacrosse players] in the world and I am thrilled for him," Providence College lacrosse Head Coach Chris Gabrielli said. "Our guys have enjoyed great success in the PLL, including James Barclay '18, who helped the Whipsnakes win the inaugural PLL Championship and Jarrod Neumann '17, who was named Defensive Player of the Year and an All-Star in the league's first season of competition. Tate has the potential and work ethic to enjoy the same level of success."

Boyce left Providence College as the most decorated player in Friars lacrosse history and set a standard that should serve future Friar lacrosse players well in their collegiate careers and beyond.

During his career with the Friars Boyce was a four-time All-BIG EAST First-Team selection and two-time BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year.  He is the only player in program history to earn All-Conference First-Team recognition each season of his four-year career, and the first player to earn Goalkeeper of the Year recognition in multiple seasons.

Boyce also is the first player in program history to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, which honors the nation's top lacrosse players, in back-to-back seasons (2018 and 2019). Additionally, he is one of four players in program history to earn USILA Division I All-America honors, and the only player to earn All-America honors in multiple seasons (2017 and 2019).

Boyce helped guide the Friars to their first appearance in the BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Tournament as the team's starting goalkeeper as a freshman in 2016.  He led Providence to three tournament appearances overall, including a trip to the BIG EAST Championship Game in 2017. That year, Providence also made its first-ever appearance in the national polls.

Statistically, he finished his impressive career having appeared in 64 games and logged a total of 3,782 minutes.  He registered a 9.60 goals against average and a 0.545 save percentage, while holding 33 of his 64 opponents to single-digit goals. Additionally, he collected a program-record 725 saves during his career, which also ranks first among active NCAA Division I goalkeepers.

Boyce, also excels in the classroom, having earned BIG EAST All-Academic Team honors three times.  Perhaps the honor that best defines him is his selection as a finalist for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate lacrosse.  To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in the four domains of community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS award focuses on the total student-athlete.

In addition to continuing his professional lacrosse career, Boyce is pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Providence College. He also serves as a graduate assistant with the lacrosse program.
