Burgdorf Named BIG EAST Defensive Player Of The Week

Fellow Friar Matt Grillo was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after his five-goal performance.

NEW YORK, N.Y.- Providence College men's lacrosse player Toby Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J.) was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week and Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday, February 10 after their performances in the 6-4 win over Holy Cross on Saturday, Feb. 8.

Burgdorf had career-highs in save percentage (.765) and saves (13) in the victory over the Crusaders. Burgdorf also had one caused turnover and four groundballs in the game. On the season, Burgdorf is 2-0 in net with a .719 save percentage and is averaging 4.5 goals-against. His goals-against average ranks second in the BIG EAST and fourth in the country. The junior's save percentage ranks first in the BIG EAST and fifth in the NCAA. This is Burgdorf's first BIG EAST honor of his career.

Grillo scored five out of six of the Friar goals against Holy Cross, including four in the first half. The sophomore is averaging four goals a game, ranking him third in the conference and 13th in the NCAA. Grillo leads the Friars in goals (eight) and points (nine).

Up next, Providence welcomes Ocean State foe Bryant University on Saturday, Feb. 15. Opening face-off is set for 1:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.
