PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Providence College men's lacrosse Head Coach
Chris Gabrielli announced the program's 2021 captains today [Dec. 1]. Graduate students
Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) and
Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.) enter their second season as captains and they will be joined by seniors
Toby Burgdorf (Westfield, N.J.) and
Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) and juniors
Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.J.) and
Mike O'Grady (Wayne, Pa.).
"Effective leadership will be more important than ever in 2021," Gabrielli said. "Our team members have to display a greater commitment and stronger resiliency than ever this year. Our captains will lead by example, while demanding the best out of everyone, every day. I have complete faith in this group, who have all been model teammates, students and competitors throughout their time in our program."
Hinrichs has appeared in 53 games tallying 28 goals and 27 assists for the Friars. The midfielder has picked up 53 groundballs and caused 11 turnovers. Hinrich was named to the 2020 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team and was named 2020 USILA Scholar All-American last season. Hinrichs was named to the 2020 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Shaw enters his fifth season, and second year as captain, with the Friars. He has recorded seven goals and seven assists in 36 career games. The midfielder picked up 45 groundballs and caused nine turnovers. Shaw was named to the 2020 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Burgdorf is coming off a tremendous season – his first year as the program's starting goaltender. Burgdorf was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions in 2020 and was selected once to the BIG EAST Honor Roll. Burgdorf ranked second in the nation in save percentage (.626), third in goals against average (7.94) and 13
th in saves per game (13.50). The goalie was tabbed 2020 Inside Lacrosse Maverik Media All-America Honorable Mention. Burgdorf was named to the 2020 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
McGreen enters his senior season having registered 23 goals and 23 assists in 32 games. The midfielder also has picked up 27 groundballs and caused three turnovers. McGreen was named to the 2020 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
Grillo led the Friars in goals (21), points (25) and shots (49) during the 2020 season. The sophomore attack registered five hat tricks in six games during the shortened 2020 season, including a career-high six goals against Sacred Heart (Mar. 7). In two seasons, Grillo has registered 51 goals and 65 points, and has added 38 groundballs and three caused turnovers. Grillo earned BIG EAST Attack Player of the Week once and BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll once during the 2020 season. Grillo was named to the 2020 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
O'Grady has picked up 37 groundballs and caused 12 turnovers in 20 games for the Friars. The LSM was named to the 2020 BIG EAST All-Academic Team.
