PROVIDENCE, R.I.-Providence College men's lacrosse head coach
Chris Gabrielli announced today [Sept. 23] that they will be partnering with Vs. Cancer Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation for their fall tri-scrimmage. On Sunday, October 13, Providence will welcome Stony Brook and Yale to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium for three games.
"We have again partnered with Vs. Cancer to help support our dear friends at Hasbro Children's Hospital here in Providence, and we are honored to use the platform of lacrosse to help raise awareness and funds for children who truly need our help." Gabrielli said.
Vs. Cancer is a Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation and their goal is to help fund child life programs. Specifically, for this event, the funds raised will go to Hasbro Children's Hospital's Patient Prom and assist with hospital bills. The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation's mission is "Care. Cure. Thrive.".
Vs. Cancer was founded by Chase Jones who was diagnosed with a Stage IV brain tumor at 18 years old. Jones was a Division I baseball player at the University of North Carolina. His team supported him through his treatment and raised money to support local hospitals. Due to national research efforts and community help, Chase is now 10 years cancer-free.
"I know that our Friar Lacrosse Family and the entire Providence College community will rally behind this great cause. I'd like to thank Yale University and Stony Brook University for committing to this event, being held on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium on Sunday, October 13th, and we'd like to urge supporters of the sport of Lacrosse to attend this free admission event to witness high-level Division I Lacrosse. Please consider donating to this great cause."
