Senior Millie Paladino (Morgantown, W. Va.) kicked off the day for the Friars in the 1,500 meter finals. It was a tactical race from the start and Paladino positioned herself perfectly in the top of the pack. The field would stay bunched until the final 200 meters of the race when Paladino and two other competitors began to form a gap. It was a battle till the end between the top three with Paladino coming away with the silver medal in a time of 4:35.55.
Junior Abbey Wheeler (Elmira, N.Y.) was the second Friar to earn a medal on the second day of competition. Wheeler ran in the 5,000 meters against a competitive field. From the gun, Wheeler and a pack of Villanova Wildcats took the race and gapped the field in the first 400 meters. As the race progressed, Wheeler positioned herself in third running a strong pace. With three laps to go, Wheeler moved up to second place and surged, forming a gap between her and the runner in third. Wheeler would go on to finish second in a time of 16:11.97.
The women's 4x800 meter relay team of Dana Lowney (Easton, Mass.), Paladino, Brianna Ilarda (Perth, Western Australia) and Dara Cuffe (Cornwall, N.Y.) placed fourth overall in a time of 9:00.37. Paladino and Ilarda ran the fastest splits of the relay each running 2:10.
