Matt Grillo Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

Junior Nick Shaw was named to the Weekly Honor Roll.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Matt Grillo (Setauket, N.Y.) of the Providence College men's lacrosse team was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week on Monday, April 15. Junior Nick Shaw (Canton, Mass.) earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Grillo scored a career-high five goals in the Friars' 15-8 win over Marquette on Saturday (April 13). He's had an outstanding rookie campaign, starting in all 12 games this season. He currently ranks third on the team in points (31) and is tied for second on the team in goals (23). Four of his goals have come as game winners, which is tied for first in the BIG EAST. Grillo has scored at least one goal in 11 games this season and has posted three games with a hat trick or better.
Shaw, who has played in all 12 of the Friars' games this season, picked up four ground balls on Saturday. He also caused one of Providence's three caused turnovers in the game. Shaw helped the defensive unit hold Marquette to eight total goals, including just three in the second half. The Golden Eagles averaged 11.5 goals per game entering the contest. On the season, Shaw has eight points on five goals and three assists.
Providence hosts Brown University in its final non-conference tilt of the season, tomorrow (April 16). The game will face-off at 7:00 p.m. on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
