Murphy has earned the honor in each of her first two seasons as a Friar.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College women's ice hockey standout Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) was named to the 12-person New England Hockey Writers All-Star squad today (March 28).
Murphy had a standout sophomore campaign, playing in all 37 games. She led the team in points (43), goals (22), assists (21), shots (192) and plus-minus (+27). She posted 12 multi-point games this season and was only held off the scoresheet nine times. The forward ranked fifth in Hockey East in total points and third in goals. Nationally, she finished tied for fourth in short-handed goals (three) and ranked second in game-winning goals (eight).
Murphy was named Player of the Week (Nov. 19) and Player of the Month for November by Hockey East. At the conclusion of the season, she was named to a Hockey East Second Team All-Star. Additionally, she was tabbed WHCA Player of the Month in November.
Hockey East placed nine players on the squad, including Boston College's Megan Keller, who was also named Women's Division I-II Player of the Year. Honorees will be recognized on April 17 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass.
