The Friars and Warriors tied 2-2 in Friday night’s game.
NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. – The Providence College women's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie at Merrimack College on Friday, Feb. 1. The Friars jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Merrimack battled back to earn a point.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Providence took the first penalty of the game and killed it off, despite good pressure from Merrimack. Shortly after the penalty expired, the Friars jumped out to a 1-0 lead.
- Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) carried into the offensive zone on a 2-on-1 with Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.). Murphy slid a pass over to Lunny who beat Samantha Ridgewell by firing a shot high, blocker-side.
- Lunny's goal, which came at the 8:03 mark of the first, was her ninth of the season. Murphy's assist was her team-leading 17th.
- Emily Landry (Orangeville, Ontario) extended the lead to 2-0 at the 13:33 mark of the first. Meaghan Rickard (Coventry, R.I.) took a shot, which Landry was able to deflect past Ridgewell. Kate Friesen (Altona, Manitoba) was credited with the secondary assist.
- Landry's goal came just 22 seconds into the Friars' 1:24 of 5-on-3 time and was her fourth of the season.
- At the 7:23 mark of the second, Merrimack cut into Providence's lead. Courtney Maud scored on a scrum in the slot to make it 2-1.
- Providence proceeded to kill two minor penalties in the remainder of the middle stanza, pushing the penalty kill to 3-for-3 through two periods.
- The penalties to the Friars helped Merrimack own a 13-5 advantage in shots on goal in the second.
- Merrimack had a power play late in the game, as Friesen went to the box with 3:48 left on the clock. With just 1:53 remaining in regulation, Megan Fergusson poked home a loose puck at the back post. Her goal, which was her ninth of the season, tied the game at 2-2 and forced overtime.
- Each team had a power play opportunity during the overtime period, but neither were able to convert. Both Providence and Merrimack had two shots on goal during their respective advantages.
- Madison Myers (Colchester, Vt.) finished the game with 32 saves in net. Ridgewell made just 15 at the other end.
- The Friars are now 1-1-1 in overtime this season. The tie marked the first of the season.
- The regular-season series between these teams ended 2-0-1 in favor of Providence.
