BOSTON, MASS. - The Providence College men's track, and field team competed at the John Thomas Terrier Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 26. The men's performances in the distance races were the highlights of the meet for the Friars.

Sophomore Ryan Jendzejec (Chappaqua, N.Y.) and senior Nick Carleo (Newburyport, Mass.) had solid races in the 1,000 meters. Jendzejec ran a smart race, positioning himself in the lead pack. With one lap to go Jendzejec made a huge push to finish with a two second personal record (2:28.39). Carleo, who raced in a different heat, finished in a time of 2:28.41. Jendzejec and Carleo both qualified for IC4As.

Sophomores Angus White (New Plymouth, New Zealand) and Marcelo Rocha (Peabody, Mass.) both secured top-three places in their 3,000 meter heats. White positioned himself in the lead pack early in the race. With 1,000 meters to go White took the lead and pushed the pace. In the final 200 meters, White made a hard surge to gap the field and win his heat in a time of 8:20.52. This would be a personal record by four seconds.

Rocha, who was in the fourth heat, took the lead from the gun. He gapped the chase pack in the first 400 meters of the race and continued to push the pace by himself. In the final 200 meters, Rocha was outkicked and finished second in a time of 8:23.93. This would also be a personal record for Rocha by 27 seconds. White and Rocha both qualified for IC4As.

Junior Ian Steller (Providence, R.I.) also had a solid performance for the Friars in the 5,000 meters. Steller positioned himself in the chase pack and worked his way through the field. He would finish fourth in his heat in a time of 14:37.57. Steller's time is a IC4A qualifying standard.
