COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Providence College women's ice hockey standout
Maureen Murphy (Buffalo, N.Y.) was one of 37 players selected to attend the 2018 U.S. Women's National Team Evaluation Camp, as announced by USA Hockey on Sept. 7. Head Coach
Matt Kelly is also attending camp as a coach/evaluator.
The camp will take place from Sept. 13-17 at the Harold Alfond Forum on the campus of the University of New England in Biddeford, Maine. Players will be split into two teams and participate in three intrasquad scrimmages during the camp. Practices will also be held as part of the evaluation process. Murphy will compete on Team White, alongside two other current Hockey East participants.
The roster is highlighted by 17 players that won gold with USA Hockey at the 2018 Olympic Games in Peyong-Chang. The roster has representatives from 16 different states, with Murphy being one of two players from New York to make the squad.
Last season with the Friars, Murphy tallied a team-leading 28 points. She led the team in goals (19) and added nine assists. Five of Murphy's goals were game-winners, while four came short-handed (tied for first nationally). As a freshman, she put together seven multi-point performances in her 36 games played.
Providence opens its season on Sept. 28, welcoming Concordia University for an exhibition game. The Friars then kick off the regular season at home with a two-game series against Bemidji State (Oct. 5/6).
