FRIARS IN BIG EAST ACTION… The Providence College men's lacrosse team will conclude its regular season schedule on Saturday, April 28 against No. 15/15 Villanova University. Opening face-off is set for 1:00 p.m.

PROVIDENCE VS. VILLANOVA ALL-TIME… The Friars post a 4-6 all-time record against the Wildcats since first meeting in 1988. Providence holds a 4-2 record against Villanova over the last five seasons, dating back to 2012.
Last season, Providence posted a 1-1 record against Villanova. In regular season play, Villanova claimed a 15-7 victory. The two squads met again in the 2017 BIG EAST Tournament semi-final round where the Friars captured a 10-7 victory to advance to the Championship game.
BARCLAY SELECTED IN MLL DRAFT... On April 18, senior defensemen James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario) was selected as the 57th overall pick by the Charlotte Hounds (Seventh Round, 3rd pick) in the 2018 Major League Lacrosse Draft (MLL). Barclay is the fourth player in program history to be drafted by an MLL organization.
FRIARS CLAIM OCEAN STATE CUP... The Friars claimed the 2018 Ocean State Cup on Tuesday, April 17 with an impressive overtime victory over Brown University, 12-11. The win marked the first time that the program had defeated the Bears in school history. Providence entered the game with an 0-22 mark all-time versus Brown. The win also marked the first overtime victory for the Friars this season, they now post a 1-4 mark in OT.
Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.) lifted the Friars to the win with his fourth goal of the night 2:19 into overtime. Josh Keller (Grand Rapids, Mich.) and Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) contributed two goals in the game.
FRIARS RANK NATIONALLY... As of April 24, Providence ranks fourth in the nation in clearing percentage behind Ohio State, Monmouth and Hofstra. The Friars average a .928 clear percentage over a 14-game span.
BOYCE IN THE BIG EAST... Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) ranks second in the BIG EAST Conference in saves per game (10.50) and third in save percentage (.523).
BOYCE FEATURED ON 2018 TEWAARATON WATCH LIST... The 2018 Tewaaraton Award Watch List was revealed on March 1. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse. Providence College goaltender Tate Boyce is one of 50 players on the watch list. The Tewaaraton Award, established in 2001, is given annually to the most outstanding American college lacrosse player. The 18th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony will be held on May 31, 2018 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C.
Boyce, the first player in program history to be named to the Tewaaraton Watch List, is one of the most highly decorated players in Providence College lacrosse history. At the conclusion of the 2017 season, he earned USILA Third-Team All-America honors, Inside Lacrosse Media All-America Honorable Mention, All-BIG EAST First Team and BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year recognition.
FRIARS OPEN BIG EAST PLAY IN IMPRESSIVE FASHION... The Friars closed out the month of March with a 14-8 victory over then-RV St. John's. The 14 goals is a season-high for Providence. Sean Leahey now has 16 goals, having recorded three goals against St. John's. Alex George won 7-of-11 face-offs for the Friars. Kearns notched his 100th career point in the victory. He has registered 106 career points as a Friar.
HATRICKS LIFT THE FRIARS OVER ST. JOHN'S... Three different Friars finished the day with a hat-trick. Leahey, Ryan Nawrocki, and Brendan Kearns all netted three goals. The hat-trick for Leahey was his third of the season.
BOYCE RECORDS SEASON-HIGH 16 SAVES AGAINST SACRED HEART… All-American goaltender Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) recorded a season-high 16 saves against Sacred Heart on March 3. He has posted double-digit saves in eight of the Friars 14 contests.
The goaltender has recorded 147 saves over fourteen games this season. He owns a 9.62 goals-against average and a .523 save percentage over 14 games.
ONE-GOAL GAMES… Seven of the Friars' 14 games have been decided by one goal, including five of Providence's eight losses. Additionally, four of the eight losses have been decided in overtime. Providence earned it's first overtme victory against cross-city rival Brown University, 12-11, on April 17. It marked the first time the Friars defeated the Bears in school history.
OVERTIME HEARTBREAK ON THE ROAD... The Friars are 1-5 on the road this season. In their first contest of 2018, the Friars fell at No. 20 Boston University, 12-11, in overtime (Feb. 3). Providence then fell to Sacred Heart in OT, 10-9, on March 3 in Fairfield, Conn. On March 25, the Friars lost to Drexel, 11-10, in double-overtime. On April 7, Providence was bested by Georgetown, 8-4, on April 7 in Washington, D.C. The Friars suffered their fourth overtime defeat on April 14 against Marquette, 12-11. On April 17, the Friars claimed its first road win against Brown, 12-11 OT.
McGREEN DISHES OUT THE ASSISTS... Rookie Evan McGreen (Naragansett, R.I.) leads the Friar squad with 16 assists on the season. McGreen tallied a career high four assists in Providence's contest against Marquette on April 14.
FACE-OFF GAME… The Friars enter the weekend with a 0.484 winning percentage at the face-off "X". Alex George (Simsbury, Conn.) leads the way, having won 74-of-142 opportunities (.521). RJ Romeo (Wilton, Conn.) has seen the second-most reps at the "X" and is 52-104 (.500).
DOUBLE-DIGIT POINTS… Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.) leads the Friars with 31 points on 23 goals and eight assists. Seven other Friars have cracked double-digits, including Ryan Nawrocki (Smithtown, N.Y.) who ranks second on the team with 23 points (16g/7a). Evan McGreen (Narragansett, R.I.) (25pts, 9g/16a), Nick Hatzipetrakos (Syosset, N.Y.) (22pts, 21g/1a), Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y) (21pts, 12g/9a), Austin Goltz (Orchard Park, N.Y.) (18pts, 14g/4a), Josh Keller (Grand Rapids, Mich.) (11pts, 9g/2a) and Tim Hinrichs (Amherst, N.H.) (10pts, 8pts/2a) have each registered double-digit points.
FRIARS HOLD SAINT JOSEPH'S TO THREE GOALS… The Friars earned a 4-3 victory over Saint Joseph's on Feb. 2. The three goals marked the fewest allowed by Providence since April 23, 2008, when the Friars defeated Wagner, 12-3.
FRIARS PICKED TO FINISH THIRD IN BIG EAST PRESEASON POLL... Providence was picked to finish third in the 2018 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll, with a total of 16 points. Denver was picked to win the league, having collected five first-place votes and 25 points overall. Villanova was picked to finish second, with one first-place vote and 21 points.
THREE FRIARS EARN PRESEASON ALL-BIG EAST SPOTS... It was announced by the league on Wednesday, Jan. 24 that Providence College men's lacrosse players James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario), Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) and Conner Byrne (Hicksville, N.Y.) were named to the 2018 Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Boyce and Barclay were each honored as unanimous selections.
FIVE FRIARS NAMED TO NEILA PRESEASON TEAMS... Five members of the Providence College lacrosse program were selected to the New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) Division 1 Preseason Teams. Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) and James Barclay (Toronto, Ontario) were First Team selections. Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.), Sean Leahey (Cranford, N.J.) and Conner Byrne (Hicksville, N.Y.) were named to the Second Team.
FRIARS MAKE PROGRAM HISTORY IN 2017... The Friars embark on the 2018 season after a historic 2017 season. The Friars competed in the BIG EAST Championship game for the first time in program history, falling just short of the title in a 10-9 loss to Marquette on May 6, 2017. PC also achieved it's first-ever national ranking (as high as 20).
SCOUTING VILLANOVA… The Wildcats enter Saturday's regular season finale 9-4 overall and 2-2 in BIG EAST action. The team posts a 3-2 record against ranked teams on the season including overtime wins over then-No. 12 Penn State (17-16), then-No. 5 Yale (10-9) and a 8-6 decision over then-No. 17 Penn. Villanova has lost to then-No. 2 Maryland (13-11) and BIG EAST foe then-No. 4 Denver (22-6).
PLAYERS TO WATCH… Christian Cuccinello leads the Wildcats with 49 points on 30 goals and 19 assists. Cuccinello was selected as the 32nd draft pick to the Atlanta Blaze during the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) draft on April 18.
Goaltender Nick Testa has seen action in 12 games for Villanova and posts a 11.03 goals-against average and a .524 save percentage.
WINNER OF PROVIDENCE VS. VILLANOVA GAME WILL CLAIM FINAL SPOT IN BIG EAST TOURNAMENT… The winner of Saturday's BIG EAST regular-season finale between Providence and Villanova will secure the fourth and final spot in the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament. Should the Friars win, it would mark a program-best third-straight appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament, since the conference began sponsoring lacrosse in 2010. Last year, the Friars defeated Villanova, 10-7, in the BIG EAST Semifinals to advance to the programs first-ever BIG EAST title game.
FRIARS RECORD 10 WINS IN 2017.. The Friars posted a 10-7 overall record (3-2 BIG EAST) in 2017, and finished third in the BIG EAST Conference standings. The Friars 10 victories are tied for the most wins in program history for a single season, and are the most wins since 2006.
