PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Head Coach Chris Gabrielli announced the 2019 captains of the Providence College men's lacrosse program today (Dec. 19). Tate Boyce '19 (Matthews, N.C.), Nick Crews '19 (Longmeadow, Mass.), Brendan Kearns '19 (Wantagh, N.Y.) and David Procopio '19 (Syracuse, N.Y.) will lead the team in the upcoming campaign.

"These four seniors have made huge contributions toward our program's advancement during their time here at Providence College, and they would like nothing more than to lead us to new heights in their final campaign," Gabrielli said. "Our captains are very much aware of the many challenges that lay ahead in 2019, but along with the rest of our upperclassmen, they are collectively up to the task."

Boyce, who will be a captain for a third-consecutive season, has played in 48 career games for the Friars. He holds a 9.43 goals against average, a .541 save percentage and has made 525 saves in his career. The senior is a three-time All-BIG EAST First Team selection, a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection and was named BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Year in 2017. He also picked up USILA/Nike Third-Team All-America honors and Inside Lacrosse Honorable Mention All-America accolades at the conclusion of the 2017 season. Entering the 2018 season, he was selected to the Preseason Tewaaraton Watch List.

Crews, a newly-selected captain for this season, has played in 18 games for Providence. Last season, he was a staple in the Friars' defensive unit, playing all 15 games. Crews picked up 20 ground balls and caused eight turnovers. For his efforts, Crews was awarded the program's Most Improved Player Award at the conclusion of the 2018 season. A two-time member of the BIG EAST All-Academic Team, he was also inducted into Providence College's Chi Alpha Sigma honor society in 2018.

Kearns, the Friars' other repeat captain, has played in 47 games. He's racked up 67 goals and 41 assists for 108 total points. Entering the season, he ranks 18th in program history in points and 16th in goals. He finished 2018 tied for third on the team in points (23) and second in assists (10). Kearns earned Preseason NEILA Second Team Honors entering 2018 and was awarded the program's Mike Chapey Offensive MVP Award in 2017. In addition, the senior attackman is a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.

Procopio, the other newly-selected captain, has made 47 appearances in his three seasons with the program. He has 17 career points on four goals and 13 assists. Eight of those points came during the 2018 campaign, in which he played all 15 games for the Friars. Like the other captains, Procopio is also a two-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.
