PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

Whitney Dove (Port Moody, British Columbia) of the Providence College women's ice hockey team was named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2.

Dove helped the Friars to a 2-0 weekend with wins over Union (Sept. 29) and Vermont (Oct. 1). In the 7-3 win at Union, Dove scored Providence's second goal of the game. In the 6-2 home win over Vermont, she recorded the final goal off of an excellent give-and-go play with teammate Emily Landry (Orangeville, Ontario).

Last year, Dove was named the Hockey East Rookie of the Year. She was the first defenseman to win the award in league history. She recorded five goals and 17 assists in 36 games played.

The Friars are back in action this coming weekend with a home-and-home series against Quinnipiac. Games are set for Friday night at 7:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena and Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
