Men's Lacrosse To Host Boston University In Season Opener

The Providence College men's lacrosse team will open the 2017 season against Boston University on Saturday Feb. 4 at 1:00 p.m. The game will be played at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I.

Scouting The Terriers
The Terriers enter their fourth season as a Division I men's lacrosse program. During 2016, the Terriers finished 7th in the Patriot league with an 8-7 overall record and a 3-5 mark in conference play.

In 2016, Jack Wilson led the Terriers on 36 points with 24 goals and 12 assists. Christian Carson-Banister posted 872:03 minutes in goal and recorded 161 saves. In 15 appearances, Carson-Bannister posted a 9.70 goals against average and a .533 save percentage.

For the second-consecutive year, Cal Dearth and Sam Talkow were named to the preseason All-America Team by Inside Lacrosse. In 2016, Dearth and Talkow were each respectively named to the All-Patriot League First Team. Talkow was also recognized as the Patriot League's Faceoff Specialist of the Year at the conclusion of the 2016 season.

Heading into the 2017 season, Boston University is ranked No. 24 in the preseason poll by Inside Lacrosse. The Terriers received votes in the USILA/Nike Preseason Coaches' Poll.

Scouting The Friars
The Friars embark on the 2017 season after competing in the programs' first ever BIG EAST Tournament in 2016. In 2016, the Friars finished 7-9 overall and a 1-5 mark in the BIG EAST, finishing in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league. The Friars were defeated in the BIG EAST semifinal by the University of Denver.

The Friars earned four All-BIG EAST selections marking the most for the program in a single season. Jarrod Neumann (Springfield, Mass.) and Tate Boyce (Matthews, N.C.) were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. Will Mazzone (Stony Brook, N.Y.) and Mike Perettine (Farmingdale, N.Y.) nabbed All-BIG EAST Second-Team honors.

Mazzone led the Friars with 62 points, on 39 goals and 23 assists. Brendan Kearns (Wantagh, N.Y.) finished second on the team with 40 points on 22 goals and 18 assists. Boyce recorded 935:48 minutes in goal over 16 games. He recorded a .526 save percentage and a 10.71 goals against average.

Heading into the 2017 season, Neumann and Boyce received All-BIG EAST Preseason honors. In the Preseason Coaches' Poll released by Inside Lacrosse, the Friars were predicted to finish fourth in the BIG EAST. Providence was picked to finish fifth in the BIG EAST Preseason Coaches' Poll.
