Softball Set To Play In Stony Brook Invitational

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College softball team is set to play in the Stony Brook Invitational from Friday, March 18 through Sunday, March 20 in Stony Brook, N.Y. On Friday, March 18 the Friars will have a double header vs. Stony Brook (10:30 a.m.) and vs. Holy Cross (12:30 p.m.). On Saturday, March 19 the Friars will play Fairfield at 10:30 a.m. The final game of the Invitational will take place on Sunday, March 20 vs. Stony Brook at 10:30 a.m.

The Friars are 10-11 on the season after a 10-2 loss at Boston University on Wednesday, March 16. Freshman Emma Lee (Orange, Calif.) paced the Friars with a 3-for-3 effort at the plate, including an RBI, while sophomore Brittany Veler (Santa Rosa, Calif.), senior Danielle Deraney (Shrewsbury, Mass.), and freshman Vanessa Portillo (Chatsworth, Calif.) also chipped in with hits on Wednesday. Lee currently leads the Friars, batting .448 with 26 hits and nine RBI. Junior Nicole Lundstrom (Rehoboth, Mass.) leads the Friars with 16 RBI.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK: The Seawolves are 5-12 on the season. Prior to taking on the Friars, Stony Brook will plan an away game versus Fairfield today (March 17). Alexandra Pisciotta leads Stony Brook, batting .364 with 20 hits and 10 RBI. Pitcher Jane Sallen leads Stony Brook in pitching with a 3.96 ERA with 13 appearances and 36 strike outs.

SCOUTING HOLY CROSS: The Crusaders are 3-12 on the season, recording wins over Sacred Heart (6-1) on March 6, Drexel (8-1) on March 10, and Hampton (10-9) on March 12. Holy Cross is led by Taylor Moss, batting .370 with 17 hits and 11 RBI. Gennifer Durham has appeared in eight games on the mound, recording 3.22 ERA, allowing 64 hits, and striking out 30 batters.

SCOUTING FAIRFIELD: The Stags are 7-8 on the season. Last weekend, Fairfield was at the Under Armour Invitational where the team recorded a 3-2 record. Alisha Marshall leads the Stags with a .455 batting average, 12 hits, and two RBI. Destinee Pallotto has made nine appearances on the mound and has a team-best 3.13 ERA and 35 strike outs.
