Men's Lacrosse Set To Host #17 Georgetown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's lacrosse team will host Georgetown to continue its BIG EAST Conference regular-season schedule at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 4 at the Ray Treacy Track and Field Complex in Providence, R.I.

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE: The Friars enter Saturday's game with a 4-5 overall record (0-1 BIG EAST).  The Friars are led by junior attack Will Mazzone (Stony Brook, N.Y.) who has recorded 22 points on 12 goals and 10 assists.  Mazzone has also collected 20 ground balls.  Senior attack Buck McClure (Dallas, Texas) follows Mazzone with 18 points on 10 goals and eight assists.  Senior midfield Greg FitzMaurice (Huntington, N.Y.) is tied for the team lead in goals scored with 12, and owns 16 points overall.

Graduate student Cole McCormack (Rye, N.Y.) has taken the marjority of face-offs for Providence and owns a .483 win percentage (43-89).  Sophomore Jarrod Neumann (Springfield, Mass.), sophomore Colin McKendry (Cary, N.C.), and freshman Thomas Laupus (Massapequa, N.Y.) have also shared time at the "X" this season.

Sophomore defender Jimmy Cunningham (Syracuse, N.Y.) leads Providence with 30 ground balls, while James Barclays checks in with 23.

Senior Peter Badgley (Summit, N.J.) has spent 502:53 minutes in net for the Friars.  Badgley has registered a 10.86 goals against average and a .562 save percentage.  Badgley ranks fourth in the nation among NCAA Division I players in saves per game (13.00). 

Providence ranks third in the nation in man-down defense (.780), behind Ohio State (.933) and St. Joseph's (.833).

 

SCOUTING GEORGETOWN: The Georgetown men's lacrosse team enters Saturday's game versus Providence with a 6-4 overall record (1-1 BIG EAST).  The Hoyas opened conference play with a win versus No. 11 Marquette (10-5) on March 21 and a loss at No. 5 Denver (19-7) on March 28.  The Hoyas currently hold a 2-2 record on the road.

Bo Stafford leads Georgetown in scoring with 33 points on 19 goals and 14 assists.  Reilly O'Connor holds the team high in assists (15) and is second on the team in scoring with 28 points.  Peter Conley follows Stafford and O'Connor in scoring with 22 points, sharing the team-high in goals with 19.

Nick Marrocco has spent the majority of time in net (585:25 minutes) for the Hoyas.  Marrocco holds a .534 save percentage and an 11.38 goals against average. 

Gabriel Mendola is the primary man for face-offs and has won 112-of-220, and has recorded 69 ground balls this season.  Following Mendola is Charlie Ford and Marrocco with 26 ground balls each.

Georgetown leads the all-time series versus Providence, 1-6.  Last year, the Friars fell to Georgetown in Washington, D.C., 10-8.
