PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team released its schedule for the 2016 season on Oct. 1. The Friars' schedule features five BIG EAST Conference games. The Friars will launch their season with scrimmages at Massachusetts (Oct. 9th) and at Sienna (Jan. 30th). The program also will celebrate the opening of its new facility - Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium. The stadium is scheduled to open prior to the spring season and will serve as the home venue for lacrosse and the men's and women's soccer programs.

The Friars spring into the season with their first game at Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 6th, the first of nine away games that the team will tackle.

During the 2016 season, the Friars are scheduled to battle 10 non-conference opponents. In addition to the Boston University match-up on Feb. 6, the Friars will travel to Vermont (Feb. 27), Sacred Heart (Mar. 5), High Point (Mar. 12) and Brown (April 19). Providence will host five non-conference games, including Holy Cross (Feb. 13), Bryant (Feb. 20), Hofstra (Mar. 19), UMass-Lowell (Mar. 22) and Bellarmine (Mar. 26).

The Friars will kick-off their BIG EAST schedule on April 2 when they host St. John's. The Friars also will host Denver on April 3rd. Providence will travel to Georgetown (April 9), Marquette (April 16) and Villanova (April 30).

The Friars' slate features two opponents that competed in the 2015 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Championship Tournament, including Brown and Denver. Denver defeated Brown in the First Round of the Tournament and went on to become the 2015 National Champion, finishing the 2015 season with a 16-2 record.

"Our 2016 schedule features another very exciting and demanding slate," said Head Coach Chris Gabrielli. "The schedule is highlighted by our traditional BIG EAST and New England rivals, as well as other very challenging out-of-conference contests with Bellarmine, High Point and Hofstra."
