Men's Lacrosse Set To Open Season Against Lafayette College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College men's lacrosse team will open the 2012 season at Lafayette College on Saturday, February 18 in Easton, Pa. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., and live stats will be available by clicking the following link:

Providence is coming off of a 3-12 season in 2011, including an 0-6 mark in the BIG EAST Conference. The Friars and Leopards last met on April 1, 2011 at Lennon Field in Providence, R.I. The Friars used four, fourth quarter goals to defeat Lafayette, 8-6.

In 2012, the Friars return five of their top-seven point scorers, including each of the top three in senior attack Jake Nolan (Westport, Conn.), sophomore midfielder Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.), sophomore attack Sean Wright (Silver Spring, Md.). Nolan led the Friars in goals (15) and points (28) a season ago, and finished second on the team in assists (13). Barton was the team leader in assists (14) and finished second in points (24) and fourth in goals scored (10). Wright totaled 19 points on 12 goals and seven assists.

The Friars also return senior goaltender Christian Dzwilewski (Huntington, N.Y.), who played 10 games last season and totaled 447:21 minutes in goal. He posted a 10.73 goals against average and finished the season with a 2-4 record.

Lafayette is coming off of a 2-11 season in 2011, including a 0-6 mark in the Patriot League. This year, the Leopards are picked to finish sixth in the seven-team Patriot League. Senior midfielder Colin Serling is the Leopards' leading returning scorer from a season ago. He started all 13 games and produced 21 points on 11 goals and 10 assists. Andrijko Andrusko returns in goal after playing 581:13 minutes in 2011. He posted a 9.60 goals against average and a 0.521 save percentage.

The Friars will return to Providence, R.I. for their home opener on Saturday, February 25 against Wagner. The game will be played at Lennon Family Field and is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
