PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College lacrosse team was defeated for the first time this season on Saturday, March 12, falling to Quinnipiac, 9-3, at the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The Friars fall to 2-1 on the season, while the Bobcats improve to 2-2.

The Friars got goals from freshman Andrew Barton (Timonium, Md.), junior Pete Wujciak (Essex Falls, N.J.) and senior Evan Helda (Charlotte, N.C.). Junior goalie Christian Dzwilewski (Huntington, N.Y.) suffered his first defeat of the season in the cage, falling to 2-1 while giving up nine goals and making nine saves.

Kevin Kelly led the way for Quinnipiac, finding the back of the cage three times while assisting on three more goals. Basil Kostaras, Dylan Webster and Jake Emms each added two goals. Kevin Benzing was solid in goal for the Bobcats, making 10 saves while allowing just three goals.

The first half was a back-and-forth affair. Each team notched a goal during a 90-second span in the first quarter, with Quinnipiac getting a goal from Kelly before PC's Barton tied it up. After the Bobcats jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the second quarter, the Friars responded. The highlight of the day was PC's second goal, when from just outside his own crease, Dzwilewski played it all the way up to Wujciak on a clear attempt and after a quick duck-and-dive, Wujciak found the back of the cage. Helda added his goal with just 1:25 to play in the second to tie things up, 3-3, at halftime.

The Bobcats took control in the second half, outscoring the Friars 6-0 in the third and fourth quarters. Kelly played a hand in four of the six second half goals to help Quinnipiac pull away. The Friars forced Benzing to make five saves in the second half, but could not take advantage of any of their eight extra-man opportunities in the game.

The Friars face a quick turnaround, as they host Massachusetts on Tuesday, March 15. Faceoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at the Friar Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
