PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

The Providence College men's lacrosse team kicked off its "Initiative 1,000" community service campaign on Sunday, October 16, with an appearance at the annual Cumberland Boy's and Girl's Club Blackstone River Duck Race. The event typically raises over $30,000 for the youth center and its programming.

Twenty-seven members of the Friar lacrosse program participated in the event, along with Head Coach Chris Burdick and three team managers.

The program's "Initiative 1,000" is a three pronged approach to community service where the team's goals are 1,000 hours of combined community service, $1,000 raised for a charity and 1,000 lives positively impacted, either directly or indirectly, from their service.
