PROVIDENCE, R.I. -
The Providence College women's ice hockey team will celebrate its home-opening weekend by hosting another perennially ranked opponent, #9 Mercyhurst on Saturday, October 15, and Sunday, October 16. both games face-off at 1 p.m.
Saturday's game is scheduled to be video streamed live on Friars.com.
Proceeds from Saturday's game will benefit two local organizations who work to prevent domestic violence and care for its victims. Each year in October, Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Friars team up with Women Will to raise both awareness and funds for Sojourner House and SOAR. Sojourner House serves victims throughout the Providence area, providing shelter, advocacy, and information. SOAR is a task force of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, made up entirely of survivors of Domestic Violence, and is designed to make sure domestic violence victims' voices are heard and considered in the making of policy in Rhode Island. An information table will be set up Saturday in the Schneider Arena Lobby for more information and to help these organizations make a difference.
