Ashley Cottrell and Amber Yung Named New England All-Stars

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey players Ashley Cottrell (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Amber Yung (Rockville, Va.) were selected to the 2010 New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star Team. Yung was one of four defenders chosen while Cottrell was one of six forwards to be selected.

Yung, a junior, finished the 2010 campaign with a career-high five goals to go along with nine assists for 14 points. She was named a 2010 Hockey East Second-Team All-Star and was voted as runner-up for the Best Defenseman Award by the league's coaches. Yung joined three other Hockey East defenders as the league laid claim to all four selections. Joining Yung were UNH senior Courtney Birchard, Boston University sophomore Tara Watchorn and UConn senior and Hockey East Defenseman of the Year Cristin Allen.

Cottrell earns the honor after finishing her sophomore year with the team lead in goals (14), assists (17) and points (31). She was named Hockey East Player of the Week on November 16 after notching a goal and three assists in PC's 6-2 victory over No. 8 Boston University. Cottrell finished the season ranked third in conference scoring (22), fifth in goals (10) and fourth in assists (12). UNH senior forward Kelly Paton was named Player of the Year while Quinnipiac coach Rick Seeley was named Coach of the Year.

This year's banquet will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at the Prince Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. The banquet will start at 6 p.m. All awards and All-Star teams will be presented at the gala.
