PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey forward Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.) has been invited to USA Hockey's Women's Winter Training Camp. The six-day session, taking place December 26-31 in Blaine, Minn., will serve as a tryout and training session for the U.S. National Team.
Bacon is one of only 40 players selected for the camp roster, which also includes 17 former Olympians.
This is not the first time the junior will don the red, white and blue. She joined current Friar teammate Ashley Cottrell (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Providence Head Coach Bob Deraney on the Under-18 national team that won the 2008 World Championships.
Bacon is currently enjoying a career year at Providence, leading the Friars with 12 goals and 17 points. She is second among Hockey East's goal-scorers, trailing only Boston College Eagle, and former Olympian, Kelli Stack (18).
This weekend, Bacon and the rest of the Friars will host two Hockey East rivals in a pivotal, semester-ending home-stand. The team welcomes New Hampshire Saturday, December 4, at 1 p.m., and Connecticut Sunday, December 5, at 2 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the PC ticket office at (401) 865 GO PC.
