PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey junior Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) has been named Hockey East's Defensive Player of the Week for games held the weekend of October 15 through October 17. It is the fifth time the goaltender has won the award in her career.
Lacasse backstopped the Friars to a pair of road victories. On Friday (10/15), she made 31 saves en route to a 4-1 victory over host Syracuse. The netminder followed the performance with a 30-save effort against Colgate on Saturday (10/16), helping Providence win, 2-1, in overtime.
Lacasse is now 5-1 on the season with one shutout. She boasts a goals against average of just 1.66, and a save percentage of .948.
The Friars have won a weekly-award in each of the first three weeks of their season. Freshman Corinne Buie (Edina, Minn.) earned the conference's Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week award on October 4, and junior Kate Bacon (Chanhassen, Minn.) was named the Pure Hockey Player of the Week on October 11.
Providence returns home on Friday, October 22, to host RPI at 7 p.m. Tickets are available by calling the Providence College ticket office at 401-865-GOPC. Before the game, the team will present a check to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The donation was earned during the Friars' Road Hockey Rumble fundraiser, a street hockey tournament held for the Providence College community last month.
