Genevieve Lacasse Named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced by the Hockey East Association that Providence College sophomore goaltender Genevieve Lacasse (Scarborough, Ontario) has been named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week on January 4. Lacasse led Providence to a 1-0-1 record with 66 saves on the weekend including 31 in a 2-0 shutout over Minnesota State in the Easton Holiday Showcase on Sunday, January 3. Lacasse recorded 35 saves in a 4-4 tie against host school St. Cloud State on Saturday.

Lacasse has started every game this season and stands at 6-7-8 with a 2.13 goals against average and a .923 save percentage. Lacasse recently moved into third all-time in career saves as she's recorded 1,311 in her tenure at Providence. She currently stands at third in the nation with 555 saves on the year. This is the second time this season that Lacasse was named Defensive Player of the Week (11/9).

The Friars are in action next with a pair of home games against No. 8/9 Cornell beginning on Saturday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. Game two will be played on Sunday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. with both games being held in Schneider Arena. For ticket information, visit Friars.com or call 401-865-GoPC.
