PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced by the Hockey East Association that junior forward Alyse Ruff (Tualatin, Ore.) was named Pure Hockey Player of the Week on Monday, January 4. Ruff led Providence to a 1-0-1 record at the Easton Holiday Showcase with three goals, including one game winner, and an assist. Ruff scored both goals in PC's 2-0 victory over Minnesota State on Sunday, January 3 and added a goal and an assist in a 4-4 tie against St. Cloud State on Saturday. The assist on Saturday marked the 50th point of her career.
For the season, Ruff has registered 14 points on seven goals (four power-play goals) and seven assists. Ruff has earned four weekly Hockey East honors over her career. She was named rookie of the week on three occasions in 2007-08. This marks the first Player of the Week award for the Friars since Jana Bugden (`07) was honored on March 5, 2007.
The Friars are in action next with a pair of home games against No. 8/9 Cornell beginning on Saturday, January 9 at 2:00 p.m. Game two will be played on Sunday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. with both games being held in Schneider Arena. For ticket information, visit Friars.com or call 401-865-GoPC.
