PROVIDENCE, R.I. - It was announced by the Hockey East Association that junior forward Alyse Ruff (Tualatin, Ore.) was named Hockey East Player of the Week on Monday, January 25. Ruff led PC to a pair of victories over Boston College this past weekend. The junior forward scored a goal and added two assists in PC's 6-3 victory over BC on Sunday, January 24. With the win, No. 9 Providence moved into first place in Hockey East and is now undefeated in its last 10 games. During that stretch, the Friars have gone 8-0-2 and own a seven-game winning streak. The seven-game winning streak is the longest since PC finished the 2002-03 season with 10-straight wins to close the year, winning the inaugural Hockey East Championship. The last time Providence went undefeated for more than 10 games was an 11-game unbeaten streak in 1991-92.
In 27 games this season, Ruff has scored 10 goals and added 13 assists for 23 points. Of her 10 goals this season, five have come on the power play. Ruff has been a key component during PC's 10-game unbeaten streak, leading the team with six goals, nine assists and 15 points. This marks Ruff's second time being named Hockey East Player of the Week. She earned the honor on January 5, 2010 after notching three goals and an assist in two games at the Easton Holiday Showcase in St. Cloud, Minn.
The Friars will host the University of Vermont for a Hockey East contest at 7:00 p.m. in Schneider Arena on Friday, January 29. The game will be televised on Cox Sports TV in Rhode Island. For ticket information, please visit Friars.com or call 401-865-GOPC.
