HANOVER, N.H. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team (5-5, 4-0 MAAC) fell to Dartmouth College (3-7, 0-2 Ivy) by a score of 8-4 on Tuesday, April 7 in Hanover, N.H. The loss snaps the Friars' five game winning streak. Junior Ryan Vermette (Topsham, Maine) and freshman Pete Wujciak (Essex Falls, N.J.) notched their first career goals against the Big Green and joined junior Ryan Riedl (Winchester, Mass.) and senior Danny Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) as the four goal scorers for PC on the day.
Vermette got the Friars on the board early with a score to give PC a 1-0 lead at the 13:28 mark of the first quarter. Dartmouth responded with a 2-0 run, benefiting from a three minute penalty on the Friars, to take a 2-1 lead with 6:52 to play in the quarter. Wujciak ended the Big Green run with a score off a feed from fellow freshman Jake Nolan (Westport, Conn.) to tie the score at two one minute into the second period.
Jack Steele put Dartmouth back on top at 3-2 with a goal at the 10:10 mark of the second quarter. The Friars responded quickly again, with Riedl notching his first score of the season a minute later to even the score at three. The score remained tied at three heading into halftime.
Dartmouth opened the game up early in the second half, using a 3-0 run to build a 6-3 lead with 5:13 to play in the third quarter. PC broke the run with a goal from Ryan off of a good feed from junior Jackson Fallon (Arlington, Mass.) to move the Friars back within two at 6-4 with 13:59 to play in the game. However, Providence could not get any closer and the Big Green scored the final two goals of the game to earn the 8-4 win.
Dartmouth benefited from a 40-to-14 advantage in shots and a 38-to-23 advantage in ground balls.
Senior goaltender Robert Bryan (Apex, N.C.) took the loss for the Friars, allowing eight goals while making 10 saves in 60:00 minutes of action.
Fergus Campbell played all 60:00 in the cage for the Big Green, allowing four goals and making five saves to pick up the win.
Brian Koch led Dartmouth with five points on four goals and an assist.
Next up, the Friars resume MAAC play with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday, April 11 in Emmitsburg, Md.
