Men's Lacrosse Announces Team Awards

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's lacrosse coach Chris Burdick announced the recipients of five major team awards given annually to members of the program. The awards were announced on Tuesday, May 6. Senior Colin Reposa (East Falmouth, Mass.) earned the Mark Brady Student Achievement Award. Senior Robert Lamontagne (Pittsford, N.Y.) was the recipient of the Tim Connelly Unsung Hero Award. Fellow senior Devin McBride (Marblehead, Mass.) earned the Steve O'Donnell Coach's Award. Two of the program's graduate students who competed on the team also were honored. Henry Pynchon (Ipswich, Mass.) won the Tom Spignesi/Matt Berk/James Courter Legacy Award, while Bennett Murphy (Princeton, N.J.) received the Mark C. Cordon Heart and Soul Award. Descriptions of each award are listed below.

Mark Brady "Student Achievement" Award - Colin Reposa This award is given to the individual who most exemplifies the attributes of what is a student-athlete. This individual gives 110% commitment to his academic and athletic progress and sets the example of academic effort for the program in the spirit of Mark Brady of the class of 2002.

Reposa played 15 games for the Friars in the midfield this season. He registered one goal on the year and picked up 11 groundballs. He was named to the MAAC All-Academic Team and served as a team captain.

Tim Connelly "Unsung Hero" Award - Robert Lamontagne This award recognizes the individual who provided effort and dedication above and beyond that which is expected. Often not seen in the box score, this individual's contribution was substantial to the success of the team.

Lamontagne played 15 games for the Friars this season in the midfield and recorded 16 points on eight goals and eight assists. He tallied one game winning goal and one man-up goal on the year. His game winner came during a, 4-3, four-overtime victory against Siena on March 29.

Steve O'Donnell "Coach's" Award - Devin McBride This award recognizes the individual who has demonstrated the highest level of commitment to the program. Often he sets the standard for what a coach looks for in attitude and effort. This individual finds away to contribute, everyday, to the success of the team. The award is named in honor of Steve O'Donnell who led the Friars to four consecutive winning seasons.

McBride played 15 games and finished fifth among his teammates in scoring with 23 points on 14 goals and nine assists. He also picked up 14 groundballs.

Tom Spignesi/Matt Berk/James Courter "Legacy" Award - Henry Pynchon This award recognizes the individual who is most committed and supportive of the program and has done the most for the program's advancement in the past year. This individual leaves behind a legacy of commitment to the advancement of the lacrosse program at Providence College. This award can be given to any person who is involved with the program. The award is given in honor of Thomas Spignesi, who founded the lacrosse program at PC in 1976 and continued by Matt Berk of the class of 2002 and James Courter of the class of 2007.

Pynchon played 15 games for the Friars and recorded a single-season career high of 11 points on five goals and six assists. He also picked up nine groundballs on the year and served as team captain.

Mark C. Cordon "Heart and Soul" Award - Bennett Murphy This award is given in the memory of Mark C. Cordon ('89) who tragically lost his battle with cancer in October, 1998. This award shall be given to the player who most exemplifies the attributes that Mark brought to the field which were hard work, determination, and a passion for the game; i.e. "Heart and Soul." It is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a lacrosse student-athlete at Providence College. Previous award winners include: Matt Pymm (1999), Matt Berk (2000), John Farley (2001, 2002), Tim Connelly (2003), Brian O'Rorke and Ben Brown (2004), John Pynchon (2005), James Courter (2006) and the Class of 2007 (2007). The Class of 2007 consisted of Jason Trout, Henry Pynchon, Brendan Ryan, Pat James, Bennett Murphy, Mark Bundra, Peter Littell, Thomas Wenskus, Mark Dillon, Chris Chalke and James).

Murphy led the Friars in goals (23), assists (14) and points (37) this season through 15 games. He finished second among his teammates in man-up goals, with four. He also picked up 20 groundballs. Murphy was named to the All-MAAC Second-Team, MAAC All-Tournament Team and MAAC All-Academic Team at the end of the year. He also served as a team captain for the Friars.
