PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College Athletics Director Bob Driscoll announced today that the College received a $150,000 gift from Bill and Emily Leary. Bill Leary '60 designated this money to renovate the Friends of Friar Hockey Room located in PC's Schneider Arena. This gift goes in honor of the PC Women's Ice Hockey Team.

"We are extremely grateful to Bill and Emily Leary for this generous gift," Driscoll said. "This gift will enable us to make extensive upgrades to our Friends of Friar Room in Schneider Arena. Our men's and women's hockey teams compete in one of the top conferences in the nation. A newly renovated Friends of Friar Room will help us to continue our ongoing traditions and help us recruit at the highest levels."

The Friends of Friar Room will include plasma televisions, high-top counters, and a media library room displaying the history of Friar hockey.

"We are pleased to make this gift in honor of the Women's Ice Hockey program at Providence College," Bill Leary said. "Over the last 34-years, this program has consistently been one of the premier collegiate women's ice hockey programs in North America. We are also proud to support the men's ice hockey program at the College. It ranks with the best of the best. Coaches Deraney and Army have done a great job at PC, both on ice and off ice, and we are happy to demonstrate our appreciation for their fine work. The new Friends of Friar Room will be a marvelous addition to Schneider Arena, which is already a first class facility."

Construction on the Friends of Friar Hockey Room is scheduled to begin in May. This project, which will cost approximately $300,000 dollars, is being paid for through the fundraising efforts of the men's and women's hockey programs. If you would like to donate to this project, please give Jennifer Cote a call at 401-865-1880.
