PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Two Providence College men's lacrosse players earned weekly honors from the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) for their performances last week. Senior Michael Farley (Westfield, N.J.) earned MAAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition, while junior Peter Littell (Upper Montclair, N.J.) was named MAAC Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement was made by the league office on Monday, April 10.
Farley, who plays at midfield and attack for the Friars, earns MAAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time this season. He scored seven goals and collected four groundballs in two PC victories last week over Fairfield and Siena. On April 5, Farley scored three goals in an, 11-10, overtime victory against Fairfield. On April 8, he led the Friars to an, 8-7, double-overtime victory over MAAC foe Siena. His third goal of the afternoon tied the game, 7-7, in the fourth quarter to force overtime. He went on to score the game-winning goal 31-seconds into the second overtime to lift the Friars to victory.
Farley leads the Friars in scoring this season through seven games with 23 points. He has a team-best 15 goals and ranks second on the team in assists (eight). His 23 points, 15 goals and eight assists this season each mark single-season career highs. Prior to this season, Farley had recorded 16 goals and seven assists in two season with the team.
Littell, a goalkeeper, earns MAAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this season. He back-stopped the Friars to each of the Friars' victories last week with a total of 27 saves. In those two games, he recorded a 7.99 goals against average and a 0.614 save percentage. He faced a total of 63 shots on the week. On April 5 against Fairfield, Littell posted 16 saves and five groundballs. On April 8, he made 11 saves vs. Siena and picked up eight groundballs.
Providence returns to action this afternoon (April 10) against Vermont at 3:30 p.m. The Friars return home to the Friar Lacrosse Complex on Saturday, April 15 to face MAAC foe VMI at 1:00 p.m.
