Jana Bugden Named HOCKEY EAST Defensive Player of the Week

PROVIDENCE R.I. (February 28) -- Providence College senior goaltender Jana Bugden (Corner Brook, Newfoundland) was named Women's HOCKEY EAST Defensive Player of the Week.

Bugden earned the honor for her stellar play in the last two games of the regular season. She totalled 54 saves in the 1-1 week versus Connecticut. Bugden allowed just two goals in each of the two games versus Connecticut. She posted 26 saves in the vital 5-2 win against UConn on Sunday, February 26, including 20 saves in the second period.

Bugden has a career-high 733 saves this season in net. She leads the team and is fifth in HOCKEY EAST with a 2.54 goals against average and a .903 save percentage. Bugden is 61 saves away from reaching former Friar and All-American Sara DeCosta who is number one on the all-time single-season saves list with 794.

With the Friars most recent win, they claimed the third seed in the 2006 HOCKEY EAST Tournament and will face second-seeded Boston College on Saturday, March 4 at 3:00 p.m. in the semifinal round at Northeastern's Matthews Arena.
