Men's Lacrosse Rally Versus #17 Dartmouth Falls Short

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College men's lacrosse team lost to the 17th ranked Dartmouth Big Green 15-12 on Saturday, February 25, 2006 in non-conference action. Dartmouth was led by senior Jamie Coffin with 10 points on seven goals and three assists.

Senior Tom Kelly, (Henniker, NH) led the Friars with three goals and one assist, followed by seniors Jon Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.), Mike Farley (Westfield, N.J.), and Mark Seyer (Kirkwood, Mo.) who scored two goals each. Junior Brendan Ryan (Chatham, N.J.) was credited with two assists on the day.

The game was tied 4-4 after the first quarter, but Dartmouth finished the first half by scoring four straight goals to take a 9-6 lead at halftime. Providence came back to score five goals in the final quarter but it proved not to be enough to overtake The Big Green.

Senior Ron Westgate (Forestdale, Mass.) made 10 saves in goal for Providence and allowed 14 goals. Westgate and freshman Robert Bryan (Garden City, N.Y.) combined for a total of 11 saves on the day in goal for the Friars, while Pat Marshall made nine saves for Dartmouth.

The Providence College men's lacrosse team returns to action on Saturday, March 4 against Vermont at 1:00 p.m in Burlington, Vt. The team's next home game is set for Saturday, March 25 against Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foe Wagner at 2:00 p.m. at the Friar Lacrosse Complex in Providence, R.I.
