Karen Thatcher Recognized For Academics By CoSIDA

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Karen Thatcher (Douglas, Mass.), who recently completed her second season as a forward on the Providence College women's ice hockey team, was named to the 2005 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I University Division Women's At-Large First Team. The team was announced on Thursday, May 26. By virtue of her selection to the All-District First-Team, Thatcher will be placed on the ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America.

Thatcher, the 2004-05 Women's HOCKEY EAST Co-Player of the Year, led Providence to its third-straight HOCKEY EAST title and first NCAA Tournament appearance with a single-season career high of 58 points on 25 goals and 33 assists. She also earned New England Hockey Journal Women's Ice Hockey Player of the Year honors, was named to the New England Hockey Writers Division I All-Star Team and claimed the HOCKEY EAST Sportsmanship Award. Thatcher also was inducted into the National College Student-Athlete Honor Society (Chi Alpha Sigma).

Thatcher, a native of Douglas, Mass., is currently majoring in biology. She is the daughter of Sally-Anne and Richard Thatcher.
