PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's ice hockey Head Coach Bob Deraney announced on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 that three student-athletes signed National Letters of Intent to attend Providence College, beginning in September 2006. The three players are defender Colleen Martin (Woburn, Mass.), and forwards Brittany Nelson (Shelburne, Vt.) and Pamela McDevitt (South Boston, Mass.).
Martin is a 5-foot-9-inch right shot defender who plays for Woburn High School. This multi-sport athlete captained the soccer and hockey teams and plans to join the lacrosse team this spring. "Colleen is very talented and will bring us added flexibility and versatility to our lineup," Deraney said. "We will look for her to contribute immediately to our program as she will give us added skill and depth at our defense position."
McDevitt is a 5-foot-6-inch left shot forward from the Noble & Greenough School in Dedham, Mass. McDevitt is currently the captain of her team and was honored as the 2004 New England Tournament Championship MVP. "Pamela will bring a great amount of desire, determination, and work ethic to our program," Deraney said. "She has a tremendous amount of potential and we look forward to seeing her reach her full potential during her four years at Providence College."
Nelson is a 5-foot-7-inch left shot forward who currently plays at the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn. She is a Shelburne, Vermont native who is the captain of her hockey squad. "She is a very intelligent hockey player, a competitor, and a winner who really understands the game," Deraney commented. "She will not only bring a great amount of skill to the team, but she brings character."
"We will be looking for these three athletes to contribute immediately to our program. They are wonderful young ladies who come from great families, and we are excited to welcome them into our family," Deraney stated.
