Women's Basketball Announces The Early Signing Of Five Recruits

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College women's basketball coach Phil Seymore announced on November 15 that student-athletes Jessica Clark (Bronx, N.Y.), Emily Cournoyer (North Attleboro, Mass.), Brittany Dorsey (Detroit, Mich.), Kendria Holmes (Charlotte, N.C.) and Georgien Williams (Bronx, N.Y.) each have signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Providence College beginning in September 2006.
Clark, a 6-foot, 5-inch center, is a native of Bronx, N.Y. She currently attends Frederick Douglass Academy and plays for Head Coach Roeletia Willis. She also plays for the Exodus AAU A-Team for Head Coach Apache Paschal. She was a member of the U16 All Gym Rat Challenge Team and plays for the NYC Gauchos. She is the daughter of Regina Clark.
Cournoyer, a 6-foot, 4-inch forward, is a native of North Attleboro, Mass. She currently attends North Attleboro High School and plays for Head Coach John Delbonis. Cournoyer is a two-time Hockomock League All-Star and Sun Chronicle All-Star (2003-04, 2004-05). She also was named to the Boston Herald All-Scholastic Team (2004-05), the Attleboro Area Holiday Tournament All-Star Team (2004-05) and garnered Hockomock League Most Valuable Player recognition (2004-05). She is a member of the Connecticut Starters Top-100 All-Star Team and is a member of the Greater Boston Top Hoop Players Second Team, according to the magazine School Sports. She is the daughter of Dave and Ellen Cournoyer.
Dorsey is a 5-foot, 8-inch guard/forward. She is a native of Detroit, Mich. and attends Cass Technical. At Cass Technical, she plays for Head Coach Charles Frank. As a junior, Dorsey averaged 10.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. She earned the team's defensive award and led Cass Tech to a 13-5 record. Through part of the 2005-06 season, Dorsey is averaging 16.0 points per game. She also played for the Motor City Suns. She is the daughter of Anthony Watts.
Holmes, a 5-foot, 5-inch point guard, is a native of Charlotte, N.C. She currently attends Victory Christian Center School and plays for Head Coach Michael Pratt. She also has played AAU basketball for Team Unique and the Carolina Force. Holmes is an All-Conference and All-County selection at Victory Christian Center School. She was named the Most Valuable Player of her team at the conclusion of the 2004-05 season and earned MVP honors at the Bull City Classic (2004-05). She also was a member of the 2005 NACA Division I Girls' Basketball All-Tournament Team and was named the Tournament's Defensive MVP. She is the daughter of Kenny and Regina Holmes.
Williams, a 5-foot, 11-inch wing player, is a native of Bronx, N.Y. She was named a 2004-05 New England Prep All-Star at Hyde Prep School. At Hyde Prep, she plays for Head Coach Pam Bertschy. Williams also competes on New Heights AAU for head coach Jessica Villaplana. She is a Gym Rat Unlimited Honorable Mention selection. Williams also earned NYC Gauchos Most Valuable Player honors and Upstate Albany All-Tournament recognition in 2003.
"I am very pleased with our 2006 recruiting class," first-year Head Coach Phil Seymore said. "My staff has worked very hard in providing some of the elements that are needed to upgrade our program in the future. We will have size, skill and agility in Jessica and Emily. Georgien and Brittany will provide us with athleticism, shooting and scoring ability. Kendria gives us the consummate point guard. We have one scholarship left and we will wait until the late signing period to determine if we will fill it."
