MEN'S LACROSSE GAME PREVIEWProvidence College vs. St. Joseph's University (Pa.)Saturday, April 26, 2003 * 2:00 p.m.Glay Field - Providence, R.I.

PROVIDENCE COLLEGE FRIARS (6-8, 6-1 MAAC): The Providence College men's lacrosse team is scheduled to host the St. Joseph's University Hawks in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action on Saturday, April 26. The game is scheduled to be played at Glay Field on the campus of Providence College at 2:00 p.m. The contest marks the final game of the 2003 regular-season schedule, and holds playoff implications. Should the Friars defeat St. Joseph's and Mount St. Mary's loses to VMI, the Friars would win the MAAC regular-season title. If the Friars defeat St. Joseph's and Mount St. Mary's defeats VMI, the Friars would finish tied for first in the MAAC standings, but Mount would win the regular-season title by virtue of a head-to-head win over the Friars on April 14th. If the Friars lose to St. Joseph's, they will finish third in the MAAC standings. A win on Saturday would assure the Friars their highest finish ever in the MAAC standings. The Friars enter Saturday's game with a 6-8 overall record and a 6-1 mark in the MAAC. PC's six wins in Conference play are the most earned by any Friar team in the program's eight-year affiliation with the MAAC. Sophomore John Hollister (Longmeadow, Mass.) leads the Friars in scoring with 23 points on 11 goals and 12 assists. Senior Skip Dunphy (Manhasset, N.Y.) is second on the team with 20 points on 10 goals and 10 assists, followed by Jon Meehan (Peabody, Mass.) who has 19 points on 13 goals and six assists. In goal, sophomore Andrew McMinn (Pittsburgh, Pa.) has played 772 minutes between the pipes and leads the Conference in goals against average (6.84) and save percentage (.624). According to the latest statistical release distributed by the NCAA, McMinn ranks third in the nation in goals against average and fourth in save percentage among all Division I goalkeepers (games played through 4/20/03). The Hawks lead the all-time series with the Friars, 4-2. However, Providence has picked up victories in each of the last two meetings. In the most recent meeting between the two schools (4/13/02), Providence defeated St. Joseph's, 17-9, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Prior to the game, the Friars will host their annual "Odd-Even Alumni Scrimmage" at 11:00 a.m. Just before face-off of the Providence vs. St. Joseph's game at 2:00 p.m., PC's five senior student-athletes will be honored for their contributions to the Friar men's lacrosse program in a brief ceremony. The five seniors are Skip Dunphy, Matt Berk, Tim Connelly, David Kole and Jon Meehan.

ST. JOSEPH'S UNIVERSITY HAWKS (5-7, 5-2 MAAC): The St. Joseph's University Hawks enter Saturday's game with a 5-7 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the MAAC. The Hawks have won only one game this season while playing on the road (1-4 away; 0-3 neutral site), and are a perfect 4-0 at home. Senior Chris Spay leads the Hawks in scoring with 29 points on 23 goals and six assists. Junior Brian Mullan is second on the team in scoring with 26 points on eight goals and a team-leading 18 assists. Senior Alex Heidenberger is third on the team in scoring (24 points) and leads the team in goals scored with 24.
