EDISON, N.J. - Junior goaltender John Farley (West Simsbury, Conn.) has been named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Goaltender of the Week, for the week ending April 8, 2001.
Farley was solid in goal, leading the Providence men's lacrosse team to a 2-0 record last week. In an 8-7 win over Virginia Military Institute on Saturday, April 7th, he faced 19 shots and made 12 saves. The following day, Farley faced 35 shots and made 15 saves against MAAC opponent St. Joseph's. The Friars scored three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter to win the game 8-7.
Farley is currently ranked second among MAAC goaltenders with an 8.95 goals against average, and is tied for second with a .610 save percentage.
Providence (5-5, 3-2 MAAC) is ranked fourth in the MAAC standings, including games played on or before April 8th. The team will travel to Manhattan College on Saturday, April 14th to face the Jaspers in MAAC action at 1:00 p.m.
Farley is a native of West Simsbury, Conn., where he attended Westminster High School. He is the son of Richard and Kathleen Farley.
