PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Saint Joseph's defeated Providence College, 15-9, in men's MAAC lacrosse action on Thursday, April 20 at Philadelphia, Pa. With the loss, the Friars were eliminated from MAAC post-season play that begins on Saturday, April 29.
The Hawks led 2-0 at the end of the first quarter on two goals by Bert Whitelock. Chris Houston netted the Friars' only goal of the first half at 10:16 of the second quarter. Saint Joseph's scored three goals in the second quarter and entered halftime with a 5-1 lead.
Led by Jeff Baxter's four goals, the Hawks outscored the Friars, 6-2, in the third quarter and held an 11-3 lead after 45 minutes of action. PC showed signs of life in the fourth quarter, scoring six goals, but it was not enough to catch the Hawks who tallied four goals in the fourth to earn the 15-9 victory.
Houston led the Friars in scoring with four goals.
With the victory, Saint Joseph's improved to 9-4 overall and 8-0 in MAAC action, while Providence fell to 5-9 overall and 4-5 in league play.
The Friars will return to action for their final game of the season on Saturday, May 6 against Albany at PC's Glay Field at 2:00 p.m.
