Sara DeCosta Earns ECAC Goaltender of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College sophomore goaltender Sara DeCosta of Warwick, R.I. was named ECAC Goaltender of the Week on Monday, December 7. It marks the second time this season, DeCosta has earned the Goaltender of the Week accolade.

DeCosta received her Goaltender of the Week honor for making 23 saves in PC's 3-0 shutout against Princeton on Dec. 6 in Princeton, N.J. For DeCosta, it marked her first shutout of the season and the third of her collegiate career. PC's win against Princeton vaulted the Friars into a tie for first place in the ECAC standings with New Hampshire and Princeton.

In seven games this season, DeCosta has recorded a 4-1-2 mark, a 2.05 goals against average and a .936 save percentage.

Last season, DeCosta helped the U.S. Women's Olympic Team earn a gold medal in Nagano, Japan. She recorded a 1.59 goals against average and an .875 save percentage at the Olympics.

DeCosta is the daughter of Frank and Nancy DeCosta. Prior to attending Providence, she played for Toll Gate High School.

Providence (6-1-2) will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 9 against cross-town rival Brown at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
