Brian McCarthy Named MAAC Goaltender of the Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College junior goaltender Brian McCarthy of Townsend, Mass., was named Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Goaltender of the Week on Monday, April 26.

McCarthy received the Goaltender of the Week honor after backstopping the Friar lacrosse team to two wins last week. On April 21, McCarthy made 13 stops in the Friars' 12-11 win at Holy Cross. On April 24, he earned his second win of the week as the Friars defeated Marist College, 7-6, in overtime at Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

In 10 games this season, McCarthy has posted a 2-7 mark. He has registered 136 saves and has recorded a 9.50 goals against average and a .642 save percentage this season.

McCarthy, a 1996 graduate of Bishop Guertin High School, is the son of Charles and Kathleen McCarthy.

The Friars, 3-10, return to action on Wednesday, April 28 against Boston College at 3:00 p.m. at PC's Glay Field. -end-
