Stephen Basiel started his first season as senior associate athletic trainer at Providence College in August of 2014. He is currently the athletic trainer for the men’s ice hockey and tennis teams.  

Before he came to PC, Basiel spent time at the University of Vermont serving as an Athletic Trainer (2010-14). Before his tenure at UVM, Basiel spent 22 years as an athletic trainer at Boston College (1988-10).  

During his career as a collegiate athletic trainer, he has been a part of numerous college football bowl teams and the NCAA Tournament for both ice hockey and basketball teams. Basiel has numerous certifications in his field.  

Basiel began his career outside of collegiate athletics, working for the Sports Medicine Clinic in Seattle, Washington (1983-85). He then spent a year at the industrial fitness firm Back in Action (1985-86).  

Basiel graduated from the University of Washington with his bachelor of kinesiology degree after transferring from Johnson & Wales University and Southern Connecticut State University where he ran cross-country and track. He later attended Indiana University where he received his master of biomechanics degree.
