- The Friars held a 12-10 shot advantage in the first period despite being shorthanded for the final 2:46 of the period as the teams went through the opening 20 minutes scoreless.
- Julius Sumpf got the Friars on the board at 17:38 of the second period with his second goal of the season off a clean face-off win by Aleksi Kivioja.
- James Duerr tied the game for UMass at 4:35 of the third.
- Providence exploded for four goals, with three coming in a span of 2:56 to break the game open.
- Roger McQueen tallied his fourth of the year, the eventual game-winner at the 11:02 mark to give the Friars a 2-1 lead.
