Last Game
- Hudson Malinoski scored twice and Philip Svedeback stopped 37-of-38 shots as the No. 16/17 Providence College men's hockey team edged Colorado College, 2-1, on Saturday (Nov. 29) at Ed Robson Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.
- The Friars got on the board at 5:51 of the first period on Hudson Malinoski's third goal of the season and second in as many nights. Malinoski finished off a cross-crease pass from Logan Sawyer with Kale McCallum earning the secondary assist on the play.
- The Tigers tied it up at 2:10 of the second period on a power-play goal by Brandon Lisowsky.
- Malinoski struck again, this time firing a wrist shot off a two-on-one that beat Unger under the blocker for his second of the night and third of the weekend.
- The Providence penalty kill stood tall in the third period, killing off both Tigers' man-advantages.
- Svedeback capped a stellar weekend with nine saves in the third period and 37 stops on the night. He finished the weekend turning away 67-of-71 shots he faced for a .944 save percentage.
- The Friars earned their first one-goal win this season and first win scoring under three goals in a game.
- Malinoski finished the weekend with three goals.
 
Scouting the Bears:
- Brown enters Tuesday's Mayor's Cup contest on a four-game losing streak after suffering a pair of conference losses on the road the past weekend at Dartmouth and Harvard.
- Brian Nicholas (3-5-8) and Ivan Zadvernyuk (1-7-8) pace the Bears in scoring, followed by Ben Poitras (2-5-7) and Matt Desiderio (2-5-7).
- In goal, Tyler Shea has logged a majority of the minutes between the pipes for the Bears in 2025-26. He has posted a 3.07 GAA and .906 save percentage in nine games (seven starts) this season. Fred Halyk has recorded a 4.19 GAA and .876 save percentage this season in six appearances.
- Head Coach Brendan Whittet is in his 16th season at the helm of the Bears (148-284-59).
 
Series History vs. Brown (56-47-3, .542)
- Providence and Brown will meet for the third-consecutive season at Meehan Auditorium as the Friars aim to retain the Mayor's Cup for the third straight year.
- The Friars have earned shutouts in three-consecutive games at Meehan Auditorium and have outscored the Bears by a 20-1 margin over the last five meetings on the East Side.
- Providence has won eight of the previous nine meetings in the series, with Brown capturing the last meeting at Schneider Arena by a 3-2 score on Nov. 26, 2022.
 
Welcome, CHL'ers
Providence welcomes seven newcomers to the program with CHL experience due to the new NCAA rule change in the offseason: Donovan McCoy (Sudbury - OHL), Jonathan Fauchon (Rimouski - QMJHL), Beau Jelsma (Barrie - OHL), Kale McCallum (Val-d'Ors - QMJHL/U. of New Brunswick), Quinn Mantei (Brandon - WHL), Julius Sumpf (Moncton - QMJHL) and Roger McQueen (Brandon - WHL).
 
Nine Former Friars Make NHL Opening Night Rosters
Nine Providence College alums appeared on NHL rosters submitted for opening night - Jacob Bryson (BUF), Mark Jankowski (CAR), Jake Walman (EDM), Noel Acciari (PIT), Vincent Desharnais (SJ), Max Crozier (TB), Brandon Tanev (UTAH), Brandon Duhaime (WSH) and Parker Ford (WPG).
 
Svedeback Earns Weekly and Monthly Hockey East Accolades
Senior goaltender Philip Svedeback was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Week after stopping 67-of-71 shots in the series at Colorado College. He also was named Hockey East Goaltender of the Month for November after posting a 1.86 GAA and a save percentage of .934. He logged a league-high 484:32 last month with totaling 214 saves over eight games played. In seven Hockey East games this season, he has posted a 4-2-1 record with a 1.84 GAA and .930 save percentage.
 
Friars By The Numbers
The Friars are the ninth tallest roster in the NCAA (6'1"), seventh youngest (21.1 years). Providence is just one of only three programs to have one senior on their roster. The Friars boasted the sixth-most NHL players that appeared in games during the 2024-25 season with 14 total.
 
The Saskatchewan Connection
Three members of this year's roster hail from Saskatchewan - Hudson Malinoski, Roger McQueen and Quinn Mantei. Malinoski and McQueen are childhood friends and played together with the Saskatoon Blazers AAA squad in 2021-22. Mantei and McQueen were teammates with the Brandon Wheat Kings from 2022-25.
 
Drafted Friars
Providence boasts seven drafted players on the 2025-26 roster: Tomas Machu (NYI - 2021), Hudson Malinoski (TOR - 2023), John Mustard (CHI - 2024), Julius Sumpf (CHI - 2025), Roger McQueen (ANA - 2025), Logan Sawyer (MTL - 2024) and Philip Svedeback (BOS - 2021). McQueen became the highest draft pick in program history after being selected 10th overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 2025. Friar commit Everett Baldwin was also selected in the 2025 NHL Draft, going to the Tampa Bay Lightning in the fifth round.
 
Three is the Magic Number
The Friars are 241-24-28 all-time under Nate Leaman when scoring three or more goals in a game.
 
After 40
The Friars are 214-13-23 all-time under Nate Leaman when holding a lead after two periods.
