PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College Athletic Department hosted the 2003 Athletic Hall of Fame Induction on Saturday, February 22, at the Westin Hotel in Providence, R.I. The nine inductees were feted with the College's highest athletic honor as they joined the 101 members of the Friar Athletic Hall of Fame.

Over 250 Friar fans joined Rev. Philip A. Smith, O.P., President of the College, and Robert Driscoll, Assistant Vice President for Athletics, for the induction ceremony, which was presided over by the radio voice of the Friars, John Rooke.

The inductees were the late Dick Bagge (volleyball coach), Rob Gaudreau '92 (ice hockey), Geraldine Hendricken '92 (cross country/track), Tracy Lis '92 (women's basketball), Andrea Mangum '90 (women's basketball), Eric Murdock '91 (men's basketball), Geoff Smith '84 (cross country/track), Linda Wage '81 (field hockey, women's basketball, softball) and Jimmy Walker '67 (men's basketball).

"I'm pleased to be able to participate in this great tradition of Providence Athletics as we recognize these nine great Friars," Driscoll said. "Today is a great day to be a Friar!"

The honorees also were recognized at halftime of the men's basketball game versus Villanova, which followed the dinner.
