NEW YORK, N.Y. - The BIG EAST announced its postseason major award winners and All-BIG EAST selections for men's lacrosse on April 29. Providence College was well represented among the list of honorees.
Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.),
Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) and
Ian Olenik (Windham, N.H.) were named to the All-BIG EAST First Team. The Friars' three All-BIG EAST First-Team selections are tied for the most in program history for a single-season. In 2023, Providence claimed three First-Team honorees.
Chambers, who was a unanimous selection, has started all 15 regular-season games for the Friars. He enters the BIG EAST Tournament ranked first on the team in scoring with 65 points on 33 goals and 32 assists. The junior midfielder eclipsed 100 career points this season and currently owns 105 points on 58 goals and 47 assists. Chambers is just one point shy of matching
Ryan Bell's single-season points record (66). Bell scored a program-best 66 points in back-to-back seasons (2024 and 2025). Chambers has scored five-or-more points six times this season, including a nine-point outing versus Bryant (4/14) and 10-point outings against Merrimack (3/2) and Air Force (3/21). He currently ranks second in the BIG EAST in assists per game (2.13) and third in points per game (4.33). Chambers was honored by the league five times during the 2026 campaign, including BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week (2/9) and Honor Roll on four occasions (3/9, 3/23, 4/13, 4/27). He also claimed USA Lacrosse Player of the Week and Inside Lacrosse AXIA Time Player of the Week on Feb. 10, USILA Team of the Week on April 28 and Preseason All-BIG EAST First Team honors.
Joseph is the fourth player in program history to be named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in multiple seasons, joining Jarrod Neumann (2015, 2016, 2017), Tate Boyce (2016, 2017, 2018, 2019) and
Ryan Bell (2023, 2024, 2025). He has started all 15 regular-season games for the Friars and enters the BIG EAST Tournament ranked second on the team in scoring with 43 points on 34 goals and nine assists. Joseph ranks fifth all-time in career scoring at Providence College with 165 career-points (124 goals / 41 assists). Additionally, is 124 goals rank second all-time in program history. This season he has recorded six hat-tricks, including a season-high six goals against St. John's (4/24). Joseph currently ranks fourth in the BIG EAST in goals per game (2.27). He earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on April 27 and was featured on the Honor Roll on April 20. He also earned BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, Preseason All-BIG EAST and NEILA Preseason Watchlist Honors.
Olenik has played in all 15 regular-season games for the Friars and enters the BIG EAST Tournament ranked first on the team in caused turnovers (23) and second in ground balls (41). His 23 caused turnovers rank third among BIG EAST players. The senior long-stick midfielder has recorded three-or-more caused turnovers in three games this season, including a career-high six caused turnovers against Bryant (Feb. 6). Olenik has also tallied three-or-more ground balls in eight games this season, including a career-best six groundballs against Villanova (4/11). He has added six points on three goals and three assists. Olenik was named the BIG EAST Specialist of the Week, twice, this season (2/9, 4/13) and was honored on the USILA Team of the Week on April 13.
Providence enters the 2026 BIG EAST Lacrosse Championship as the No. 2 seed and will face No. 3 seed Villanova in the semifinals on Thursday, April 30 at 7:35 p.m. All games in the BIG EAST Championship will be played at Providence College on Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium in Providence, R.I. No. 1 seed Georgetown and No. 4 seed Denver will square off in the first semifinal game on April 30 at 4:30 p.m. The semifinals will be broadcast on ESPN+. The winner of each semifinal will advance to the Championship Game, scheduled for Saturday, May 2 at 2:00 p.m. on ESPNU.
