Richie Joseph And Matt Lazzaro Named To NEILA 2026 Preseason Watch List

Richie Joseph was named to the NEILA 2026 Preseason Watch List for returning players and Matt Lazzaro incoming players list.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The NEILA announced on Monday, Feb. 16, that Providence College men's lacrosse senior attackman Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior attackman Matt Lazzaro (Franklin, Mass.) were named the NEILA 2026 Preseason Watch List. Joseph was recognized on the returning players watch list while Lazzaro was named to the incoming players list.
Joseph has scored seven goals and added one assist through three games this season. He scored four goals in the Friars' 16-11 win versus Bryant (Feb. 6). The senior was named the Preseason BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year and tabbed with Preseason All-BIG EAST Team honors prior to the start of the season. In 2025, Joseph placed third on the team in scoring with 48 points on 37 goals and 11 assists. He also ranked second on the team in goals (37) and assists (11). He currently ranks 17th all-time in career points (130) and tied for seventh in goals (97) at Providence College.
Lazzaro has registered 11 points on eight goals and three assists this season, ranking second on the team in each category. The junior scored his first career goal in the Friars' 15-10 win at Holy Cross (Jan. 31) and tallied five points on three goals and two assists in the game. Lazzaro also scored three goals and added one assist in the team's 16-11 win versus Bryant (Feb. 6). He has scored two or more goals in all three games this season.
UP NEXT… The Friars will return to Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium when they host Brown University on Saturday, Feb. 21. Face-off is set for 12:00 and the game will be broadcast on Friars Live. The game marks the Friars second contest in the Ocean State Cup as Providence previously defeated Bryant 16-11 on Feb. 6.
